New Statewide Flip, with wins up & down the ballot

In 2020, Michigan is a top battleground target. In 2016, Donald Trump won the state by 0.3%, or roughly 10,000 votes, and in 2020 organizers in Michigan are determined to learn from and build upon lessons from the recent past. Their success and wins in 2018 mean that 2020 efforts are primarily defensive. Apart from the Presidential election, protecting U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D) is the highest statewide priority for most and is necessary for Democrats to flip control of the U.S. Senate. The Senate race will likely draw attention and statewide investment in Michigan from national stakeholders, in addition to efforts to protect freshmen Congresswomen Elissa Slotikin and Haley Stevens. Four state house seats are up for grabs to flip control of the chamber and complete a governing trifecta. For organizers in-state, 2020 is an opportunity to demonstrate that with intentional investment and authentic engagement, Michigan can still deliver for Democrats.
