THE PLAN TO WIN

Way to Win works with movement leaders across key battleground states and nationally to fund a data-driven, progressive strategy to win in 2020 and beyond.

This cycle, there are opportunities stacked upon opportunities: to win the White House, the Senate, the House, state chambers, Governor’s races, and local races. Our collective work will affect policy outcomes by electing the right people, and expand the electorate by centering women, Black, brown, and other communities most impacted by injustice.

Based on data and carefully analyzed electoral and demographic trends, The Plan to Win takes on 293 races up and down the ballot that underpin the path to the White House and Congress. And, because we know the way to win, not only are we fighting to defeat Trump, but in doing so, we are preparing for a new era in governance. By centering local movements, our investments will yield results far beyond short-term wins—laying the foundation for long-term power.

We have a plan, and if we work together, we can build the future we want—join us!

New Statewide Flips

With wins up & down the ballot

We believe in treating voters as full people, not just numbers, which is why our strategy is layered, prioritizing states with the most opportunities to win power up and down the ballot. Arizona and North Carolina—both coming off of statewide victories in 2018—are poised to flip for the first time in decades, while also having U.S. Senate seats and state chamber control in play.

Traditional Statewide Flips

With wins up & down the ballot

Some combination of these perennial battleground states will be necessary to get to the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House. Given how narrow the losses were in these states in 2016, we are leaving no stone unturned, ensuring that programs focused on building multi-racial coalitions in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Florida are funded.

Emerging Statewide Battlegrounds

With important down-ballot flips

Demographic change, years of power-building work and a big turnout election mean that previously red states like Georgia and Texas have become presidential battlegrounds in 2020. We can win by a lot by flipping these delegate-rich, Republican-held states, which also have 3 U.S. Senate seats and important down-ballot wins at stake, including state chambers in Texas and Georgia.

Important Statewide Holds

With important down-ballot flips

We can’t concede any ground in the traditionally blue states of Nevada, Minnesota, and Colorado (where there is a U.S. Senate seat up for grabs, too). All three of these states are also poised to win progressive power at every level of government, an essential shift to pass policy that improves people’s lives.

The Big Picture

Our strategy prioritizes states in 2020 where we can win back the White House while also winning power in Congress, in state legislatures, and locally in communities.

Leah Marsters, Director of Membership

The political industry was built by consultants, not by the movements powering change. Way to Win members are individual donors, donor advisors, and institutional funders working to upend philanthropy and politics as usual.

Way to Win members have access to top-notch advisors and to a community of like-minded donors and strategists, while creating a robust and reliable revenue stream to support Way’s staffing and operations. This enables us to focus more of our time and energy on resourcing the work before us—our number one priority. There are varying levels of partnership available ranging from $5,000 and up. If you’re interested in joining or if you’d like to learn more about the different membership levels and benefits, please reach out to our Director of Membership, Leah Marsters.
